December Love: Snail Mail

Ahh...The near extinct snail mail. The written word. So personal, tangible and so old fashioned (?) It's such a long way away from hitting the 'send' button on your computer but oh so much nicer to receive! The decision on the card, the proper and neat handwriting (sans abbreviated slang eg. LOL, LMAO, ROFL - you get my drift), the stamp, the postage, the effort. It's one of my most favourite parts of Christmas. So much nicer than an email don't you think?

Totally agree...there is nothing nicer than a written letter in the post..these days you only seem to get one when you receive a wedding invite..even then the only thing that is written would most probably only be the address on the envelope. What happened to being more personal..taking the time...things are just to convenient nowadays arent they..although we wouldnt want to be without all this technology either? But a letter or parcel in the post ..is just such a lovely surprise. I best get cracking with my xmas cards too : / Thanks for sharing x

Definitely much better, always delightful to receive!

The only bad thing about snail mail is that my letters are usually covered with spilled coffee, grease from potato chips or a smudge of chocolate.
Lovely post, though! Love your blog.

This is mine.

Your post got me thinking - about tangible things -
so different from the digital world that is such a big part of our lives -
shoeboxes of real photographs, museum tickets from our travels, and yes, the letter from friends that arrives in the mail.

I've been looking for a mail holder that isn't just the cheap plastic kind... LOVE the idea of a vintage rake!!!

These are beautiful images, and it's true, snail mail has become one of those forgotten wonders of the world, but I try to send the odd card every now and again to my friends around the globe, there's nothing like putting a smile on someone's face as they open a pretty envelope :) xxx

When I was a girl, Sunday afternoons were set apart to write letters.
...those were the days.
